In a life cycle of an e-learning platform it can happen that the decision is made that a platform has to be changed. About two years ago Ruhr university Bochum finally switched from Blackboard to Moodle. It was a transgression over at least three years with a large user base and with partly quite intensive e-learning activities. During the process I developed a converter tool that did a great part of automatic course conversion. While coding I learnt a lot about the platform architecture. It is written in php and the code is on Github:
